Doncaster cycle track welcomes new Changing Places toilets
The cycle track at Doncaster Dome is the latest place in the city to open a Changing Places toilet enabling greater access to the venue.
Changing Places toilets are larger accessible facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets, with equipment such as hoists, curtains, adult-sized changing benches, and vital additional space for carers and wheelchair users.
The new facility was made possible following a £23.5million funding pledge from the government, which was announced earlier this year, to provide over 500 new Changing Places Toilets in England.
Chris Hone from Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust, who manage Doncaster Cycle Track at The Dome, said: “We are extremely proud to have opened a Changing Places toilet at the cycle track. We hope that this new facility will encourage more people to come and try out the track.
“Wheels for All, a national accessible cycling charity which promotes inclusive cycling through a range of successful community engagement programmes, have weekly slots available at the cycle track with modified bike equipment, giving people the opportunity to cycle on a regular basis with help, support and guidance.
“This new Changing Places toilet is a welcome addition to our offer at the cycle track making the venue even more accessible to members of the community who need additional support.”
Doncaster Cycle Track is a world-class cycling facility based at Doncaster Dome. The track opened to the public in 2019 following the UCI Road World Championships. The 1km long circuit has provided both recreational and competitive routes for cyclists as well as an opportunity for the whole family to cycle together in a safe environment.
Chris added: “The cycle track offers pay-to-ride sessions throughout the week and is well used by group bookings welcoming cycling training, Wheels for All, Animis Triathlon Racing and Healthy Her – cycling sessions for Muslim ladies.
“We run popular family ride sessions and it is great to see so many people from our local community get on a bike and enjoy the track.”
All sessions should be booked in advance vis the website www.dclt.co.uk/the-dome/activities/cycling/ and people can use their own cycle or hire a cycle and helmet at the track.
